What is Community Supported Agriculture?

"CSA's allows consumers to connect with the land and the people who grow their food."

the CSACommunity Supported Agriculture programs serve as models for recreating the connection between the food we eat and the farmers who grow it. This connection is as old as the human race and has only been broken in the last few decades. We are dedicated to reestablishing this relationship and building a system that will serve as a valuable resource for our community. Members of the CSA Farm Share Program purchase a share at the beginning of the growing season, and in return, receive a weekly supply of produce freshly picked from our fields. The benefits of joining our Farm Share Program extend far beyond eating healthy, pesticide free food.

The Farmers receive upfront funds for operations, know they have a certain market, know they have a future producing food for their community, and most importantly, can focus on farming. The Shareholders, first and foremost, receive high quality organic produce every week, directly from our farm. Pick up days are Tuesday and Friday 2 - 7pm.

Other benefits include:
• Choosing from vegetable varieties that are selected for taste and nutrition, not the ability to appear fresh weeks after they are harvested prematurely and forced to ripen.
• Lessening the environmental impact by eating food less traveled. Locally grown food means no frequent flier miles and less global warming.
• Knowing the faces of the farmers and the land our food comes from.
• Last, but not least, we specifically seek NOT to grow genetically modified crops.

What's new for the 2008 CSA program.

This season we are introducing three new shareholder programs. To begin with, we are offering a Full Season Single share helping those with smaller needs, and for the first time we are offering a summer season share in both full and small sizes. This program will run from July to the end of August and will accommodate our summer residents.

Lucky Field Organics share program.

Lucky Field Organics began its share program in 2004 with six shares. We were selling to stores and restaurants and wanted to try out this new CSA idea. Ever since we began the program we have felt it was one of the best ideas to come out of the organic food movement. For the shareholders it represents a connection and a commitment to eating well and being a part of your own food system. For the farmer it represents the most efficient way to handle the business end of farming. We have one financial transaction with our shareholder and all the rest of our energy goes into growing the best food we can and sharing it with our new friends.

We still attend farmers markets and sell to The Store and restaurants, but we are very happy with our CSA shareholder program and consider it the centerpiece of our farming operations. Please join us for one of our 2008 Community Supported Agriculture Shareholder programs at Lucky Field Organics and How On Earth.
